Torrential Downpours Cause Street Flooding and Road Closures

Water Rescues Underway in New Haven and Fairfield Counties

Heavy rain battered southwestern Connecticut on Sunday afternoon, causing flash flooding and prompting water rescues in several towns.

The National Weather Service issued a flash flood emergency for New Haven and Fairfield counties, where streets were inundated and basements flooded.

Water rescues were underway in Bridgeport, Shelton, and Monroe as the rain continued to fall.

Coastal Flood Warning in Effect for Fairfield County

In addition to the flash flood emergency, a coastal flood statement is in effect for southwestern Fairfield County until 2 a.m.

The National Weather Service warns of possible flooding in low-lying coastal areas.

Stay Informed and Safe

  • Avoid driving through flooded areas.
  • If you must walk through floodwaters, use a sturdy stick to help keep your balance.
  • Never drive through moving water.
  • If you see downed power lines, stay away and call 911.
