Ons Jabeur of Tunisia overcame a mid-match struggle to become the first Arab woman to reach the quarter-finals of a Grand Slam tournament twice. The 29-year-old Jabeur recovered from a mid-match struggle to defeat Jessica Pegula of the United States 7-6 (7-2), 6-1 in the third round of the Madrid Open on Thursday.
Jabeur, who is seeded eighth in the tournament, will face either Petra Kvitova of the Czech Republic or Coco Gauff of the United States in the quarter-finals.
Jabeur has won her last four meetings with Pegula, including a victory in the final of the Charleston Open last month.
