Jamal Murray: Buzzer-Beating Heroics Propel Nuggets to Victory
Nuggets Guard Sinks Game-Winning Jumper Against Lakers
Denver Extends Series Lead in Nail-Biting Game 2
DENVER -- Jamal Murray played the hero for the Denver Nuggets on Saturday night, hitting a step-back jumper at the buzzer to lift his team to a 145-143 Game 2 victory over the Los Angeles Lakers.
With the game tied at 143 and just seconds remaining, Murray received a pass from teammate Nikola Jokic and calmly sank a 15-foot jumper over the outstretched arms of Lakers center Anthony Davis. The shot sent the home crowd at Ball Arena into a frenzy and gave the Nuggets a 2-0 lead in the Western Conference semifinals.
Murray's heroics came after a back-and-forth battle throughout the entire game. The Lakers led by as many as nine points in the first quarter, but the Nuggets chipped away and eventually took a four-point lead into halftime. The lead changed hands several times in the second half, with neither team able to gain a significant advantage.
In the end, it was Murray's poise under pressure that made the difference. The 25-year-old guard finished the game with 32 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 assists, while Jokic added another triple-double with 14 points, 14 rebounds, and 11 assists.
The Nuggets now head to Los Angeles for the next two games of the series. Game 3 is scheduled for Monday night at Staples Center.
